Stay strong, Mudphudder, you're almost at the finish line. I'm pulling for you brotha... [After all is said and done, I'd be interested to know how you were received as a "research" applicant on the interview trail. If you think there were any unique aspects of your experience as the mudphudder that you are (i.e- research intensive interviews, favorable treatment from programs wanting research applicants or perhaps even skepticism from facutly who have a less favorable disposition towards research). Please share the wealth when you get a chance.] Good luck with the match.

Found your blog on Twitter and it's a nice concept. I agree, the match delay sucks, but there's no incentive for them to upgrade their system unless the powers that be can figure out a way to charge us more money to get the results earlier. But they are too busy cooking up Useless, Silly, Money Leeching Exams (USMLE step 3 anyone?) and charging us a fortune to take.

Good luck, let go some of that anger, and enjoy the match. What are you going into?

Your defense of the match is highly suspect Antipode...

Anyway, I don't need a PhD in analysis to know that 3 weeks is still too long. I want instant gratification, baby!

But seriously, cleaning what data? The lists are submitted electronically and the whole process should be automated from there. Also I guarantee that no one is double checking my rank list to make sure it looks alright. In fact I doubt anyone is double checking anything. A few years ago, there was a bug in the algorithm that paired the worst medical students with the best programs for one residency type, with all of the top candidates not matching. No one caught it until a lot of pissed off medical students called in. Does that sound like anyone is checking anything? Moreover, unless the algorithm has a bug in it, no one should be "cleaning" anything after the fact--the purpose of the match process is for it to be completely free of human influence.

You should have done some analysis work during your PhD. Three weeks to clean and check that much data is a bloody good effort.
