how long have i been here anyway?
It’s funny how I see constant reminders of the eons I have spent at this institution. New buildings–that’s a big one. The fact that half of the campus did not exist when I started is a sad reminder that I’m not getting any younger. No joke–in the time that I’ve been at this institution (eight years), I’ve seen at least 7 buildings go up (moved into one of them with my old lab) and an area of land as large as the current campus razed to put up more buildings. I’ve gotten to the point now where the younger students, who are all very excited about these developments, talk about the blah blah blah building and I’m thinking, what the hell is the blah blah blah building?
Anyway, today I ran into a graduate student who I hadn’t seen in a while, and it turns out that “a while” is six years. Six years?!?!?! Are you kidding me? Six years is longer than most people stay at one institution let alone how long it has been since I last saw someone who works in the building next to mine. I mean, that’s 21% of my life time ago!
There’s no denying it, mudphudder is getting old…and is cranky about it.
